"Just Doesn't Work Very Well" 2009-04-26

I usually watch HD cable, but need to pick up some local over the air UHF digital channels. I have a Terk HDTVa antenna on one of my TVs that works pretty well, but needed another one that had a slightly more compact footprint. That is one of the reasons I decided to purchase the Philips MANT-410. The MANT-410 also had a built-in 45db amplifier, one of the stronger amplifiers available that comes with an antenna. After installing, the reception was pretty bad and I found out the amplifier was basically useless. I actually loss TV reception of UHF channels that I could receive when it was turned on and adjusting the gain levels didn't help. One of the rabbit ears also broke off at the base just above the swivel.

This antenna did nothing for my TV. Now I live in the desert without a real TV station with 230 miles but I am surrounded by translators. I only was able to receive one channel, and this was done by grabbing one end of the antenna with my hand. Granted that I live in a bad area, but when I can look out my windows and see the transmitting antenna's I would have thought this item would work, but, nope.

Let me qualify this review by first saying I am only using this antenna for HDTV, so I can't say anything useful about analog reception. What I can say about this antenna, is that it works well for me. After literally trying 6 (and returning 5) antennas, I am convinced that the percieved quality of the antenna has less to do with the antenna itself than with your individual situation/location. I'm sure all the antennas I returned work perfectly well, just not for my very specific location, so beware of any reviews that say 'this antenna is crap', because you need to try for yourself to be sure. This amplified antenna did slightly better than a standard rabbit ears I tried. Both could pull in every station within about 30 miles, but the amped antenna gave me a much more connsistent signal strength, with less drop-out, and no further per-station tweaking required once i got it situated in a good position. A word of warning, it does need to be turned on to work properly (and to use the very convenient a/b switch), so if you had plans to try it unpowered, think again. Also, out of all the antennas I tried, this was the only one that could even begin to lock on my more distant ABC station. The lock is far from solid, and is only watchable on rare occasions, but this antenna was the only one I tried that could even detect ABC was out there, so I think that says something too.

Im totally impressed with this cable. The construction is top notch and the connectors fit nice and tite. After spending $2,500.00 on a HDTV i wanted a cable that could bring out the best audio and video possible, but not spend an arm and a leg on an overpriced cable such as the Monster brand or buying a $5.00 cable that are made with lower quality. The price is perfect on this Belkin cable and you get the picture and sound you expect out of your tv. Belkin makes great products for the money and i highly recommend this cable. Im very satisfied with this purchase and i plan to buy a few more when i get a surround sound system and a Blu Ray player. I give it 5 stars.

If you want to spend money for Monster Cables, do not go with the Ultra series, because even the Ultra 1000 uses shredded copper conductors, while the top M1000 HDMI uses silver-plated solid copper conductors. The PureAV uses silver plated solid copper conductors for a much lower price. If you want to spend the money, go with Audioquest HDMI-3 or even HDMI-1, but for this price, you cannot beat PureAV.

I like this cable alot. It has a sturdy yet flexible outer casing and makes a tight connection to the HDMI receptacles. I bought it to go along with my new 1080p samsung HDTV and HD cable and I find the picture and sound to be phenomenal. This cable was recommended to me by an Amazon electronics rep for its ability to deal with the 120hz feature on the TV.

I also purchased the cable for my folks since they were using component cable on their Sony. They say there are more vibrant colors and better picture. 8 ft is plenty of cable length, but i probably could have gone with 4'and eliminated the extra cord.

The Samsung low profile wall mount was very easy to install and results in the best looking mount I have seen. The TV is close to the wall (can't see wires from the side) and can be swung out at the bottom to make connections. You give up the ability to tilt and rotate your TV, but if you want a close, neat fit to the wall, this is great.

ok, so the new tv is here and up. and its great. heres all the info i can give you.

first off, and i admit i should of paid more attention, see that picture they show you of the mount? that's the back of the tv. i'm sure it says this somewhere, but it got by me, shame on me. so here i was expecting this large box and when it arrived i had this small box and was intially upset b/c i thought i got the wrong thing. speaking of wrong thing, when you order the WMN1000BXZA, the box (the one i got at least) ended at B. it does indicate it's for the 860 though. i even verified at samsung. anyway, its all good.

so, i say to myself, WTF, why design this and not have it so you can secure it into 2 studs. once i see all the screws i think, oh it is just about 16 inches, maybe it will work. once i figure out the directions, pictures mostly, as there are 100 diff't languages they prepare for, i see that indeed, its as i thought, only one stud can be used. ok, this worries me. so, i do the proper measurements and what you have to do is this:

take your measurements from the tv (mine is the 50) and center it by measuring which stud you want to connect with. the directions call for you to set the 2 wall mounts 7-7.8 inches apart. so drill these in, screw in the 2 top (and bottom 2 for angling) to the tv, and there you have it. it is awesome how close it is. i have no trouble with wires (although its not exactly how it will end up) so that's nice.

giving as much info as i can, i bought it for 140, but have seen it for just under 110, doh!

worth it at 140, but still cheaper is better!

of course i wish it was 2 studs, but what they do is give you a good drywall mount to install. if you are familar, i call them toggle screws (may not be right term), you can use this for the drywall part. what it is:

you drill a 1/2 inch hole and insert the screw. the new thing for me though is this. all toggles i have worked with are the screw in variety. basically, you drill the hole, slide in the metal side, make sure the clasp flips over (to grab inside of drywall) and rather than screwing it in, you basically zip tie it in, odd but it works.

all in all, it works great. i am happy. you do need 2 for the job unless you have a large wingspan. weight not the issue, but why risk dropping on your toes!

This was relatively easy to install, just two holes to drill. The written instruction were worthless. I relied on the diagrams to get the job done. I recommend you get a digital stud finder to find and use at least one stud. I was concerned that the sound quality would be effected because the speakers are mounted on the back of the TV and there is less than 3/4 inch gap between the speakers and wall. The sound quality is still excellent regardless.

I though I was going to receive a huge package by the looks of the photographs, at lease a 4' x 4' box. The mounts shipped in a box 12" x 10". 4 large circular metal mounts and several bags of hardware.

I would recommend this Samsung Ultraslim mount.

The Good: I bought this TV set after much research and viewing every set I could online and at the stores. This set beat out Samsung and Sony models in its class, and was hundreds less. This set has great audio speakers that adjust to loud volumes such as commercials. Black levels are great. Colors pop. Skin tones are spot on. This set is more "tweakable" than others. You can elect to have antiblurring without dejudder. I looked side by side at several stores to compare this model and it is superior to Sony and Samsung pq. Bigger is better. I don't have room for a 46 inch and this 42 inch beats out the 40 inch sets.

The Bad: I was unlucky and my set had two dead pixels right out of the box. After two months, I got a second set, exact same model. The second set had audio lip syncing problems on one channel and buzzing sounds once a day. The dead pixel set had no audio problems. I ended up keeping the dead pixel set. The fine print under the Toshiba warranty says if you get one dead pixel or 100 dead pixels, it is not covered under the warranty. I can't see my dead pixels unless there is a white background and I look for them. This set is perfect in many ways, except not pixel perfect.

It was a bad experience to start out with, to have two sets, the same model with problems.

Yes, the tuner is a little slow but 99% of us are going to use this set with HDMI sources like a HD cable or Satellite box - right? No flaws in the display but you have to open the little door on the remote and find the A/V mode that suits your environment. This set has a huge number of "knobs to turn" as far as setting up the picture so be careful and find the mode and settings that you need. Once you get it set - it will blow you away.

Yes, the sound isn't what you got out of the 250# "console" TV that you just replaced. It has small speakers because it's a flat panel TV. They are all that way. So stop complaining and go buy yourself a little 5.1 channel sound system that has an optical input. Hook it to the optical output of this set and the Cable or Sat box (see below) and it will be the best show you have ever heard or seen. Better yet, go buy yourself one that has a DVD upconvert or Blue Ray DVD player in it. The LG LHT854 on Amazon is a good example (for less than $200). Buy your optical and HDMI cables here on Amazon too and save a lot of $$. All the hype you read about certain cables being better is wrong. They don't need to be gold or start with "M". Speaker cables don't need to be big, fat and hard to work with. Unless you are running 2000 watts or more, 18 or 16 gauge wire is just fine. It's all digital data so there is no way the optical or HDMA cable can effect the quality of the sound or video. Be sure to connect your optical sound cable from your cable or Sat box directly to your sound system so you don't pick up a delay from the TV processing it. IF your sound system has only one optical input, buy an optical splitter/combiner on Amazon for a couple of dollars and combine the optical sources from the TV and cable or Sat box. This all works.

Sharp has taken the most appropriate road on LED backlighting in my view,simply replace the florescent system with proven technology that was developed for the laptop industry by leaders like Apple. It's very bright and even.

We had a service rep from Sharp come out to look at the tv because the picture was so dark. He changed the display settings but otherwise said there was nothing that he could do. So I was curious what the electronic big box store had there displays set on. Basically the same thing: BACKLIGHT +14, CONTRAST +30, BRIGHTNESS 0, TINT 0, SHARPNESS +10. The salesperson at the big box store said that they have to reset all their display TVs higher than the factory settings because the pictures are dark. Huh(?) So I don't know. We like the sharpness of the picture for most TV that we watch, but some night seens on this TV are hard to make out because they are too dark. Turning up the brightness just washes out the day seens.

"Great Picture. Terrible Sound." 2009-10-09

I was in desperate need of a 1080p 32" HDTV that would fit into the existing entertainment cabinet in my living room, which is exactly 31" wide. You'd be amazed at how difficult it is to find a 32" LCD that meets that requirement. Most are around 31.5", which is very close but just wouldn't fit.

Long story short: The set has gorgeous picture quality. No complaints at all about that. Unfortunately, the speakers are extremely tinny and just plain awful. The limited audio controls in the setup menu allow you to adjust treble and bass. I wound up pulling treble almost all the way to the bottom to temper the scratchy highs, and then nudging bass up a bit. But don't turn the bass up too high, or the speakers will distort during loud noises. The best I can get it still sounds far worse than the 20 year-old standard-def set that this is replacing. This TV really requires the use of a separate audio system. In my case, that means I'm going to have to find a soundbar that will also fit my cabinet. I hadn't planned on that.

The television is fairly easy to set up. My only disappointment there is that the set only offers a 4:3 pillarbox mode on standard-def input signals. HD input signals are locked to 16:9. Because the upconverting DVD/Blu-ray player I plan to use with this TV doesn't offer a pillarbox mode either, I'm going to have to train my wife to set the player for 480p output whenever she wants to watch her beloved Gilmore Girls DVDs, and then set it back to 1080p afterwards. Or else she'll have to watch them stretched, which neither of us finds acceptable. That's going to be a big nuisance (with a long learning curve, undoubtedly). Why don't TV manufacturers enable full aspect ratio control on both SD and HD signals?

The set's a little expensive. But, again, gorgeous picture. I'm happy with the purchase overall, despite these caveats.

It's been about a month now owning this TV and I am generally very happy with my purchase. In almost all aspects its just a wonderful TV and I think it's certainly a no brainer in the current LED market. Here's what I've found out about my new Sharp TV:

Pros:

It's got the blacks you want. Plain and simple. Definitely impressive stuff compared to my other two LCD's in the house.

Nothing dead, nothing stuck, no flashlighting, and no banding. Another reviewer mentioned these problems but from what I have experienced and what I have heard from others this is a near non existent problem.

Deep customization for adjusting hue, saturation, tint etc etc allowing for really fine tuning. Personally this has been more of a con but its only because I'm too cheap to pay for calibration.

Great, vibrant colors in general with a picture that has "Pop".

Cons:

The included remote really isn't that great. I don't enjoy the buttons themselves nor the layout. Of the Phillips, Sanyo, and Toshiba's I have used recently I would say this isn't the worst but not as nearly as good as the Toshiba's. Whatever, not much of a con but it's true. You can always use a universal.

As good as the colors are...your gonna need some calibrating to get this one right. I am still trying to get what I want out of this guy but I'm positive it'll work out in the long run. Mainly it's an issue with flesh tones.

The speakers are honestly pretty poor. Even compared to my Phillips and Sanyo LCD's these speakers just have a bit of a tinny sound. Not a huge deal but this is where I have knock half a star off on my overall review.

No matter what, this is a winning product. Highly recommended...especially in the 32" market. GREAT VALUE. ~4.5 STARS / 5

"Great value if you can ignore its flaws." 2009-09-14

Considering the technologies packed into this tv, its one of the better value among its class, if you can live with some of its flaws.

Positives: Very, very good picture quality after calibration. Blu-rays look especially stunning. Deep black, and very good black details.

Neutral: Slow tuner, changing analog and digital channels takes at least a couple of seconds. Average input lag. Using Guitar Hero 3 lag calibration tool, I was able to get 48 milisec in Game mode, and between 90 - 130 milisec in other modes.

Negative: Flashlighting. My tv came with 2 large spots, the size of my palm each. Reducing the backlight helps somewhat, but they're clearly visible during dark scenes such as the cave scenes of Iron Man blu-ray.

Some recent Sharp panels had banding issues. This Genx panel supposedly corrected this problem. However, I'm disappointed to find out that it is still present at least on my tv.

I have an inch wide, faint verticle band on the left side of the screen. I didn't detect this initially until watching the oil field burning scene in Baraka. Subsequently I noticed it came up during watching the US open, and Master and Commander. I can conclusively confirm that the banding is there with my tv when displaying a solid green jpeg. Again this banding is quite faint and very hard to detect, but once I did it's very hard for me to ignore.

I have been waiting for a good tv, and finally I found this.

Today I connect an Oppo BD, and this lcd can handle 1080p/24, and deep color, very good!

The blacks are blacks, and the image are pretty good.

When this tv is on, just consume 95 watts, if i compare with my old sharp 32 lcd, it has a consume of 161 watts.

the only thing i dont put 5 stars is that the turner is a pretty slow.

This is a winner tv.

Upgrade:

I had a problem with a noise or humming, and after change 2 LCD, I found that all the TVs has the same problem, and the problem gone when you desactivate the energy saver, and turn to max the backlight.

The turner is a little cheap, because I hear the noise from de cable operator louder than my old LCD 32 Sharp Aquos.

The image is still good.

The styling of this TV is absurd. Anyone remotely responsible for the styling of the Samsung TOC(red accents) should be terminated on the spot. I can't believe it has lasted this long, the engineers have been carrying the styling department for years. This TV makes a statement alright, " I have no taste or class". Probably perfect for the Paris Hilton crowd.

Do your research on this TV this is a different breed.

I purchased this TV because it is so thin. I have a 2006 Triple-Slide 5th Wheel, and it had a cabinet for an old CRT-style TV. Putting the Sammsung ("Sammy") on the stand in that cabinet wasted a huge amount of space. So I made a door for the front of the cabinet from 3/4 inch birch plywood, and stained it to match the color of the cabinet. I used a flat screen mount screwed to this door, and hung the Sammy on that. About 2 inches of clearance for the slide out, and about 15 cubic feet of storage space is recovered. And, it looks VERY sanitary. The door opens with just a perfect amount of clearance, and we have all of our Blue-Rays and DVDs in there, along with books and other stuff. Makes the RV "better than new" in several ways.

Now, about the TV.

I got done just in time for Game 2 of the world series. Stunning. Unlike our home LCD, this monitor has 120 hz. It's fast. You can SEE the baseball heading for home plate CLEARLY. Not a blur. The unit is beautiful, the touch of color is classy. There is a nice little light that would light up the stand if we were using the stand, and it shines right onto our Satellite STB perfectly as we have it mounted. Picture quality is the best I've ever seen in a 32 inch TV. We also use this as a monitor for a MacbookPro in our RV. We can sit or lie on the couch with wireless keyboard and Mouse, and see fine... I'm typing this that way right now!

Set up was a breeze. The only catch was that my satellite box doesn't give the TV a time feed, had to set date/time manually. No big deal. I find the location of the inputs to be just fine, and there are lots of them. Cable management is included with the TV, a nice plus. One negative, and a small one: instead of a standard "computer" style power cord, it has a fixed cord. The cord is a 90 degree plug style cord, and it doesn't go thru the hole in my cabinet, so I have to enlarge the hole to get it thru.

So far, this is the best TV I have ever owned, and I have 3 other flat screen TVs, another Samsung, and 2 Sony Bravias. All are nice, but this LCD is just so pretty, picture wise and design of the unit. If it has no issues, then I'm a Sammy guy all the way, and I have really been happy with my Sonys. If there are any issues, I'll be sure and update.

I oredered this on Amazon thru vendor "Vanns". It arrived days early, via freight, and the driver carried it right in to the RV for me. 1100 plus was a lot to pay, and I think it was worth it.

We bought this LED TV 1 month ago over the Sharp 32" LED and what a mistake that was. We liked the slim style but the picture quality on this LED vs. the Sharp we have is not even close. In addition, the layout of the ports and connections are such that with the slim design I have to take the TV off the wall to add/remove my USB devices.

To make matters worse, the screen blew within the first month and trying to deal with Samsung support was a nightmare. I used the web chat to open the call and that took more than 30 minutes. Then I had to follow up and call them to see the status. They could not tell me the details of their own warranty (pick-up, in-home, delivery) and I had to call a 3rd party service to get the info. This unit has "pick-up" service but that means they send you a UPS label and you have to box and ship. If you want UPS actually pick up, you have to pay the charge or take it to UPS. They say it will be up to 2 weeks for the repair.

I know I will sell this once it comes back from repair and buy another Sharp. It may not be 1.5 inches thick but it's got a superior display, $400 less and frankly, the super slim does not look that much different on the wall.

"Great Image for Just Two Weeks - A Repaired TV Review" 2009-10-09

I bought the Brazilian version of this TV set, which has some minor technical differences. Unfortunately, mine was a defective unit. It worked for just two weeks and then it started showing some black spots on the screen. In the beginning there were just a few dead pixels. Then it started growing gradually into black lines and even black circles. If at least the Brazilian law were like in US, but no, here we have just seven days to return it to store. After that, we have to take it to repair. Now I have a really expensive "repaired" TV set (here it is US$2000). And who knows how long it will last...

UPDATE written on October 21, 2009:

After some Google search I found out that this LED LCD Panel used by Samsung is in fact made by AU Optronics Corp. (AUO). So, I think the responsibility for the fail mentioned above can be shared between both Companies.

I believe it is important to divulge such problem. It's my contribution to alert people and to force the manufactures to improve their process.

But, despite of that issue, now that I've been using this TV for a month, I feel more comfortable to share my opinion about it.

Pros: High contrast ratio due to LED backlighting. It deliveries you deep black, clear white and vivid colors. It also consumes less power than a regular CCFL backlighting TV. Other advantages: it's really slim (it looks like a picture frame on the wall) and environment-friendly on disposal. Besides, comparing it to other options on the market, I would say it has a stylish design.

Cons: The sound is not as good as I would expect for. I definitely prefer TVs with front speakers, but this issue can be minimized connecting it to a receiver. The remote control in my opinion is too big and ugly. Due to its glossy finish, it's impossible to keep it clean. You'll see. Unless you use a glove, you'll let your fingerprints on it. But now, the worst thing for me: I've lost confidence in this brand. It is important to mention here that this is my second Samsung TV. The first one had to be returned twice to the store. Just the third one was working properly. So, I've tried out four TVs and three had some kind of problem, which means 75% of fail.

If I had the opportunity to come back in time, I'd choose something else. I'd probably buy another Sony. By the way, I also have a ten-year-old Wega and other eight-month-old Bravia, and I'm really happy with them.

"Great Looking TV" 2009-10-13

I have wanted to get an HD TV for a while. I spent a weekend looking for one and saw this at a local store. I compared it to Sony, Samsung, LG and others and thought it had the best picture. The colors are better - clearer and more true to life, and it's a lot less blurry than most TVs on the shelf. It provides a much clearer picture than regular or 120 TVs for less than true 240. Football, action movies and TV shows all look great. I don't know how it would compare side by side with a true 240, but I'm not worried. It was on Amazon for less than the one store I found that carried it, so I ordered it. And it's even cheaper now. The reviews I found online, such as CNET, were all favorable.

Delivery was free and took less than a week. Though the company Amazon had delivering it almost didn't deliver it. I waited the day it was to show up and it never came. I searched my order for delivery company info, Googled them and called the local office. They had a driver bring it out at about 7pm, but if I hadn't called, it would have been a few more days. That is the first problem with Amazon shipping I have ever had, but the first time it has not been USPS/UPS.

The box isn't the cool, easy, lift off top. But since it isn't real heavy, unpacking wasn't too bad.

The TV is beautiful. The picture is great. I love the extra inputs. There are plenty for different connections. I can connect my laptop via HDMI and the picture quality is crystal clear. I had some problems with the remote at first, but I think it was just getting used to how it worked. What functions were active on what menu or setting.

I also purchased an LG Blu Ray home theater (LG LHB977) and they work great together. The LG has an extra HDMI input so my cable routes through it, simplifying the surround sound. And now that I have HD cable, I am more amazed at the picture quality. The Toshiba sound is great, but of course, not surround.

The TV supports plugging a USB device like an external hard drive into it and playing movies and videos from it. That function works very well. I have not tried using an SD card to view pictures.

I have had it for about 1 1/2 months and still love it. The LG Blu ray is pretty nice too. No complaints on it. Plus my wife likes the TV, so that is a great bonus. I love the TV and highly recommend it

I agree with all the positive reviews here, but if you need to use closed captioning, you might want to read Freiwil's review of the 46-inch Regza at Toshiba REGZA 46XV645U 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV, Black He is correct in saying that you have to use the cable box's closed captioning option because CC is not transmitted through the HDMI cable. I called Toshiba to confirm this, and the rep said this is true. I really hate that because the TV has many CC options for font, size, and so on that are not available via cable TV. Also, others have mentioned a set-up issue (the set-up screen occurring every time you turn on the TV) on sets built before a certain date. The Toshiba rep admitted this is a problem, but she mailed a card to insert in one of the slots on the side to update the firmware and avoid this problem in the future. For the price, this is an excellent buy. The technician who set up our TV said that he thought the Sanyo top-of-the-line had gotten around the problem with CC. I hope Toshiba can do that! However, the higher end Sanyo we priced was $1000 more than the Toshiba.

"First-rate for less!" 2009-07-09

I've had mine for about a month now and can't get home quick enough to watch it every day. Compare it side-by-side with mid-level Samsungs and Sonys, and you'll have to agree the picture is every bit their equal, and it costs hundreds less. I'm kinda picky and have never had a TV that I could leave in "Automatic" picture mode before, but I do now. Reflections from the glossy screen are not bad at all in my living room, the sound is better than in my other LCD TVs, and recent versions of the firmware have eliminated the setup nag at turn-on (mine, built in May 2009, does not have the issue.) I'm not saying it is the best TV out there, but if you give it a fair look you may just take one home. Toshiba has become serious about playing with the big boys in LCD TV, that's for sure.

"I LOVE this TV" 2009-11-16

I intentionally held off writing this review until I had used the TV for a while. After having the TV installed for about 5 weeks now I feel comfortable in reviewing the product.

Simply put it rocks. The picture quality is superb. The interface is relatively easy to use.

Pros:

1. Picture quality is amazing. The fastest most demanding sports, and action scenes are flawless.

2. No "wasted space" There is very little "casing" around the TV. No bulky speakers on the side etc.

3. Digital Tuner will likely give you a lot more channels with no adapter or cable box. You still won't get all of your premium channels but you will get more than just the analog tier. (note that I don't use this as my primary input for TV viewing only for the PIP functionality).

Cons:

1. No single button for PIP. Makes it difficult/impossible to get to PIP from a Harmony remote.

2. The Yahoo Widget gallery is slow. Painfully slow. Slow to the point that every time you access it it takes 2-3 minutes.

3. The Automotion Plus is a matter of taste. You may love it or you may hate it. I ended up turning it off as it makes people in regular TV shows seem "hyper real". I don't know how else to describe it. It almost seems like they are cutouts layered on top of the background. I know that describes it poorly but you really have to see it to understand it.

I did about two months worth of looking and research to find the right set and the right deal. This TV is in a dedicated media room in my new home. I purchased this TV through Amazon back in August with an amazing coupon deal. I also considered competing models from Sony, LG, Toshiba and Sharp, as well as the Samsung 550 and 650 versions in this size. To my eyes, the Samsung models have deeper blacks and better contrast in well-lit rooms as well as in darker, home theater rooms. To be fair, I also believe the Sony sets have better color saturation and better standard def processing. Additionally, the Sony sets do not have the glossy panel that the Samsung 650 and 750 models use. And let me get this out of the way: The panel on this set (750) is plenty glossy and will reflect light. If you intend to place this set in, say, a family room with lots of natural light as well as lights from a kitchen, breakfast or dining area, I would not recommend this set. The panel does have some sort anti-reflective layer, supposedly, but I think there are limits to how much reflection it can really diffuse. At the very least, if you aren't sure, make sure you hold onto your receipt and the packaging that the set came in should you decide that there's too much reflection on the glass for you. It's not a problem for me, but I can certainly see where this can create problems for others. The glossy panel issue aside, this is a terrific TV. I truly believe that this LCD set gives you the most plasma-like picture of any traditional LCD TV on the market. If you want plasma blacks and contrast in a lighter, more energy-efficient package for your home theater, the Samsung LN46B750 is worth a look and, in my mind, worth the slightly higher price of entry. The newer, back-lit LED models from Samsung, LG, Toshiba and Sharp may provide the same or slightly better picture quality, but I honestly don't believe the added price of those sets is worth the marginal improvements that they may deliver. I have played around some with the 240hz motion processing on this Samsung, but I don't really dig the cloudy, soap-opera effect that this technology tends to create. I generally leave it off. I also have not played around with the online widgets that this set comes loaded with. I suppose they are nice to have, but I didn't buy this TV for the widgets. I watch a lot of football on this TV and the picture has never disappointed, but I really feel like this set shines with movies and similar theatrical content. Get yourself a Blu-Ray player and a decent surround sound system with this TV and you may never leave your house. Seriously. Last thing I'll say is that this TV provides you with a lot of picture control that you don't get elsewhere - particularly the separate blur reduction and judder settings for motion processing. If you love to tweak picture settings for different kinds of lighting situations and/or content, then this set is for you.

This is an outstanding television! I have to admit, I was dragging my feet even entering the HDTV market, as I am a "reverse snob" and don't like to admit how important TV is in our lives: "What, spend hundreds of dollars on such a passive form of entertainment? Surely our OLD televisions are just fine." Sniff, sniff.

Well, I'm eating crow and happy to be doing so! One day a few months ago, I got off my high horse and admitted just HOW much pleasure our family gets from TV shows like "Mad Men" or "Fringe" or "Amazing Race" and how enthralled my daughters have been with big box sets of gorgeous shows like "Planet Earth"...or how we like to watch documentaries and dramas from Netflix nearly every weekend, together, and, really, we AREN'T going to become illiterate slobs JUST because we have a good television set... :-) The time had come to get something that could take advantage of all the wonderful advances in technology (Blueray, Netflix, high def programming) and so I started researching LCD TV's.

After much online searching, after review after review, after looking at actual sets in the stores, I settled on this Samsung--with some degree of trepidation, as it cost nearly three times the price of our last set. We've had it about a month, now, and we are ABSOLUTELY THRILLED: the picture quality is stunning--especially for travel and nature shows--and the set just works beautifully. My daughter--a gamer--was astounded to discover entire aspects of her favorite PS3 games (details, scenes, artistic fonts, etc.) that hadn't been translating onto our old Sony crt TV, at all. The television even looks gorgeous when it's not turned on, and doesn't seem as massive and attention-grabbing as our looming, extraordinarily heavy Sony Triniton, despite having a screen nearly twice as large. No other lcd hdtv I've seen begins to compare with the extraordinary detail, sharpness, and overall LIFELIKE quality of the images that Samsung managed to produce.

Just this week, I got my latest issue of PC World magazine, and was pleased--but not the least surprised--to discover that they had rated this model as absolutely TOPS in its class (Lcd hdtv's over 40") AND also listed it as #10 in their rundown of "Top 100 Technological Products of 2009" as well.

Great picture. Very easy to use. I'm still building my entertainment system, but this TV has plenty of room for expansion. All the core features seem to be performing at the top of the line quality.

Internet widgets on the TV are a promising feature, but most of them aren't very well designed and are frustratingly slow to use via remote control. Also, the Amazon Video on Demand widget has been "temporarily unavailable" for weeks with no explanation online.

I purchased this Samsung about a month ago. This is my second Samsung. My first Samsung was a 61 in.DLP. Everything about the set is great. I have not had any problems with it. The picture was so great right out of the box that I have not made any adjustments to the set yet. This Samsung with 240HZ is the best picture you will find for the price. My kids say that the picture looks so realistic that movies appear to look like Soap Operas. Live broadcast of sporting events look like you are sitting in a stadium but without the weather. I got it for about $350 less than what it is selling for now. I have been buying from Amazon for a long time and I suggest you hold out for promotions and a lower price like I did. I mounted with a Peerless PA740 Articulating mount which I also bought from Amazon for about $55. I used this mount so that I could place the TV in a corner. IF you want the best, without the Red Touch Of Color, THIS IS IT!

I have an older & smaller Samsung HD TV that has a 60Hz refresh rate...there is no comparison in the quality of the picture, especially for watching sports. The 240Hz refresh rate combined with the overall high picture quality makes it seem that the characters on TV are coming out of the screen.

I highly recommend this LCD (or any of the B750 models)!

I'm not a techie; in fact, we had the people who did all the sound/security system wiring and initial TV/sound system installation in our new condo come back and install this TV. Shortly after I ordered the TV, I was given a delivery date and 2-hour time window, and the TV arrived right on time in a carton that looked like it'd never been touched. Installation (includind moving the 'old' TV to replace an even older one) took 1 1/2 hours and the finished product is awesome. If you want close-up viewing, the clarity from 18" away is mind-boggling. I'm not much for reading manuals so I'm certain there are key features I'm missing, but for someone who just wants a great picture and ease of operation whenever they want to watch TV, this Samsung is hard to beat. We have another big (~60") Samsung with DLP technology and I contend that it's not possible to get a better picture than that one has, but this 40" LCD may be just a little bit better.

I'm getting to the point -- based on a couple years' experience -- that if I can't buy something on Amazon, I don't want it. It started with the Kindle and spread to a ridiculously limitless array of products.

I did a lot of research on all the reviews before purchansing this tv. I have had no problems at all that some others had mentioned. Picture is incredible. The glare from various windows in the room is very minimal (you have to actually look for them to even notice it). Sound is actually much better than I had expected from some of the other reviews. At the time I ordered this tv, I went to other local stores to see if they could beat amazon's price. They actually told me I should order the tv from amazon at that price. They couldn't come close. I had found a steal! Zero complaints with this LED.

Before its turned on it looks great just sitting there, Everyone who sees it compliments the design, the TOC, even though it does nothing for performance .Although I have mine on a entertainment center, you can hang it on the wall,like a painting, 1.2" wide. 4 hdmi ports which is awsome, usb, pc, internet, digital audio, component connections,everything one would need, configuration options in the menu are very generous. One does not buy a flat screen for its speakers,so hook it up to a surround sound system, and enjoy. If you think the picture looks great in the store, when you get it home,adjust the menu option for home use, not store use and you will be amazed at the results, WOW factor on HD, super WOW on Blu-Ray.I was able to purchase this at a special price of $1259.00, a no brainer.

The UNB406000 arrived from Amazon in perfect condition and on time. Overall the TV provides outstanding performance; annoyed however, with the channel scan limitations.

Pro:

1.The UN40B6000 provides a great picture, stunning sharpness, excellent overall color. Excellent ATSC digital tuner, except for the user tool limitations (see cons).

2.Low power consumption. The load power measured about 65 watts or about 0.095 watts/square-inch for the 40 inch LED-lit screen. By contrast, my Samsung 61 inch DLP HDTV measured about 210 watts or about 0.132 watts/square-inch. Line voltage measured 122 volts at 60Hz. The measured values are from an APC 1300 UPS using the built-in digital load watt meter. The wattage in either case varies according to picture preference settings and scene to scene variation.

Con:

1.Unlike the other Samsung HDTV's I have purchased in the past, the UN40B6000 will not easily combine TV channels from other cities or directions. I live between several cities. I do not have cable or subscription satellite service, only broadcast reception with an outside antenna oriented with a rotor. Every time I want to watch channels from a different direction the auto scan must be run; which first eliminates all previously stored channels. Re-aiming the antenna is quick; but to run the auto scan every time is absurd. Also, there is no method to manually add a real digital air channel should a broadcaster use a virtual channel of the same number. See http://www.dtv.gov/glossary_V.html for definition of a virtual channel.

2.The multimedia USB interface overall does work; however there are exceptions. All my NASA HD recordings, direct from the NASA C band channel on AMC 6, are recorded in mpg format to my PC's hard drive. When transferred, none of these files played with the UN40B6000 USB interface, although they play without problems on my PC. Not too surprising, other mpg recordings do work without problems. I believe the difference is the specific mpeg decoder used to record the files to the hard drive.

3.No S-video input. It would be really nice to play my super VHS tapes with the an s-video connection.

4.The internet connection is useless. While the internet connection does work, accessing weather, stocks, news while watching TV is useless; obviously my opinion.

I've owned this TV for around six weeks... Could not be happier with it. The picture quality is perfect pretty much out of the box, although there are a few preset video/audio types which fine tune it based upon what you're watching (e.g. sport, vs movie).

I use the DLNA features extensively, streaming movies from my Mac to the TV. I use the wired Ethernet port built in, however there is a wireless option which I have not tried. It's perfectly happy streaming 1080p video over DLNA and the interface to manage the data isn't horrible either.

I paired it with a Samsung HD-BD3252 HT system, which rounds out the setup pretty nicely. The audio from the TV as default is pretty good, but the HT addition really sets it apart.

I am writing this review as a former ln46a650 with red touch of color owner. The quality of that set is tremendous but its small size and red color got annoying after a while. I sold the other one and picked up this bad boy for about $1760 last month and wanted to give it some time before writing a review. The piano black finish with the barely noticeable gray at the bottom looks excellent and high class. The touch of color is no longer a distraction. The 240 hz is very smooth and makes all movies including older movies like those from the 50s and 60s on HD channels look very crisp. The blacks are deep and you can tell the contrast ratio is top notch. 1080i uverse looks great. The preloaded art content really shows off the quality of the TV when displaying quality content. You can wow your sophisticated friends with this one. There are about 7-8 impressionist paintings and you should really check out the Manet in a boat one. I don't use any of the widgets as they are laggy and kinda useless. If you are looking for an LCD that has all the features and you wont have to upgrade for a very long time, I'd grab this one with a promo code. The USB input is a nice feature too. The only drawback is I wish they made a 55 inch version of this or bigger. I use a 5.1 yamaha surround system so I cant comment on the audio quality, but who buys an LCD for the sound anyway??

After watching the ads/prices for months and months, I finaly made the plunge for our first big screen HD. We're overwelmed with the quality of the picture of this set, and can't be happier (so far...it's only been a couple of weeks)!

Went through a couple of cable box changes (box problem, not TV), and cable connection changes, we have an unbelievable picture, without any fine tweeking yet. Don't want to touch any of the fine adjustments yet. There are more features on this set that we haven't even found.

Amozon shipping was quick; we were contacted within days to set up delivery date. I will say it was good I was home to help driver carry in and place TV. After that, I was on my own to make connections.

So far, we're very happy with the sharpness of the picture, and the quality and look of the set.

This TV is everything I expected. It was delivered quick and trouble free. The picture is amazing as you would expect even right out of the box. Some people complained about the speakers which I feel sound fine for TV speakers. I have it connected to 7.1 surround for movies anyway. Also, some complained about the remote, I found it rather intuitive but I have had Samsung products before so I may be used to the arrangement. I would recommend this TV to anyone.

The picture quality is absolutely fantastic. I have a few things to note for would-be buyers. The buttons on the TV are kind of a pain to use. You can hardly see them and there is no tactile feedback or even a raised bump for the buttons. The internet "widgets" are painfully slow to load. This makes them basically useless to me. The audio out for the headphone jack is independent from the main volume control. This is nice, but it could be a bad thing if your headphones don't have a volume control. The source select on the TV is odd. Your connected device must me on before it shows up at the top of the list. But for some reason PC/DVI is always there. One last thing: you can't set the wake-up time on the TV so it turns on with a different source selected. You can only have air or cable selected. So my TV turns on with white snow, then I have to switch the source over to the cable box.

Good TV overall, not perfect, amazing picture. Be careful how you set the "Auto Motion Plus 120Hz" because it can make some video look very weird.

This is the firt HDTV I ever owned so I can't really say if it's better or worse than others. To be honest, I bought it because my wife has been hounding me to buy one for about two years and I was getting sick of listening to her.

I originally went to a local appliance store and looked at several TVs sitting next to each other. The picure on the Aquos was much clearer and sharper (in my mind) than just about every other set. I also wanted a fully backlit LED LCD screen for the enhanced picture quality and energy savings.

Amazon had a really good price (about $300 less than the local store) and the white glove delivery was great!

I like this TV, but in the end, it's just a TV, nothing more, nothing less, so I can't get too excited about it.

Got this baby two days ago, and wow, its amazing. First I'll start off with CONS: Aquos NET is stupid, worthless, and sharp should change it. The sound is next to worthless.

Ok, thats out of the way, picture quality is great. Find me for this price a 46" 120hz quality tv. Add in LED and you've got yourself an amazing deal. The standard definition dvds look amazing on this. Localized dimming is far from perfected, so not a big deal it doesnt have it, but I was comparing this to the superthing samsung edgelit, and this was a more even picture IMO.

.... is the best word to describe this TV. After months of research, questions, comparing, and price shopping, I truly feel like I got the best bang for my buck with this TV. The picture is amazingly crisp and bright, the colors pop off the screen, and the blacks are very good for an LCD-LED. One of the main questions I had was the 120Hz vs. the 240Hz, and if that really made a big difference. After talking with countless reps and reading/watching reviews online it was pretty clear that even these "experts" were having a hard time noticing any major difference. If they did see a difference, it was minimal at best. To each their own though. Each of our brains process images differently, so some people might notice a difference. I could not see any major difference, so it was not worth paying the $400 more for the 240Hz.

For me, it came down to this TV vs. the Samsung UN46B7000. Here is why I decided to go with the Sharp......

* Comparing them side by side the picture/colors were better on the Sharp. Period.

* With the full backlit LEDs vs. the edge lighting on the Samsung, the Sharp's screen was brighter.

* Sure the Samsung is much slimmer coming in at just under an inch and a half, but you don't buy a TV to look at it from the side. I have mine mounted on the wall, and it only sticks out 4 inches. Really what you have to decide is what you prefer.... asthetics of the TV vs. picture quality.

* Read every review on the Samsung and the most common complaint about them is the sound. Because it's so thin, the speakers are crap, and the sound is horrible. If you are seriously looking at a Samsung, go into the store and have the rep turn off the surround sound and turn up the TV's speakers. You'll understand what I'm talking about.

* And the #1 reason??........it's cheaper. After all, it's all about the Benjamins.

I would highly recommend this TV to anyone who is looking to make the jump to an LCD-LED. Not only do you get amazing picture quality, but it's cheaper than most LCD-LED sets out there. 5 stars.

This is my third Samsung in the past 4 years. I started with the first gen LED DLP which crapped out and then was replaced by the hl61A750 which is an amazing piece of work and is still kicking. I also purchased my first LCD as the ln40a650 which has since been moved to my bedroom to make room for the ln55b650 which I will review here.

This TV is amazing. Some may dislike the bevel in the middle but I don't even notice it, partly due to the fact that my center speaker is blocking it. I currently have the tv on a stand slightly higher than eye level, which is somewhat unfortunate. Straight on this picture is the best I've seen as of yet except for the DLP. Off center though you lose a little bit of depth and things become kinda purple/blue. My setup is just a couch in front of the tv though so I only have that problem when I'm in the kitchen and watching. Colors look natural and beautiful on this set, which keeps up with the Samsung standard I have grown to love. To watch DVDs I now use my PS3 and they look great. I believe I've turned off the AMP feature as I've noticed there is slight input lag especially when it comes to gaming. (Tested in demo mode w/ games like guitar hero where you can see the difference) For TV and movies it might not be bad, but I'm ok with how it looks normally. 24p works flawlessly with blu-ray and the picture is amazing. Wall-E is the only movie I have since it came with the PS3 but it's great. Blacks are black and the whites are white. Completely satisfied with this TV.

I purchased this TV for $1800 here I guess during some amazing 2 day special because the price has been fluctuating. But at that price it can't be beat. If you're considering this set, just get it. you won't be let down.

I have read the CNET review where it dogs on this tv for the edge-lit technology and says for $3500.00, it should provide a more uniform viewing experience. "Very pleased with this TV." 2009-11-01

I'm really impressed with the quality of the image of this television, especially given the price I paid. I had been looking at the Samsung LED panels, and although they were beautiful and vibrant, the increase in image quality didn't seem commensurate to the increase in price. So, I had given up on getting an LED-backlit panel, until I discovered this Toshiba. It was just released, and I was a little nervous about getting it sight-unseen, but I decided to take the plunge, and I'm glad I did.

The colors really pop out. The LED backlighting makes a *huge* difference for blacks. On my old 46-inch TV (a Sharp AQUOS), when watching dark movies, or standard-def stuff with black bars, the blacks would glow pretty noticeably in a dark room. Of course, this was par for the course for an LCD panel at that time, and it wasn't the worst thing ever.

With the proper configuration on this Toshiba panel, when viewing SD content in a dark room, the black bars fade into the darkness almost perfectly. Sometimes you can notice the selective backlighting. If there is a small bright object on a black background, it will have a slight aura from the section of backlight being on. If you connect a computer, set a black screen and move a white mouse pointer around, you can actually identify the backlighting elements. It's more cool, than annoying. I guess because of the way the human eye works, you really don't notice the panels/auras under normal viewing.

The media player functionality is pretty much worthless... it wouldn't play any of the movie files that I had on hand. Since I have an HTPC attached, it's not much of an issue. I basically bought the TV to function as a monitor.

Pros:

*Nice solid blacks due to the dynamic backlighting

*SD content from my Wii and DVDs displays beautifully.

*Plenty of connections

*Lots of complicated picture settings. I'm not a pro when it comes to calibration and viewing configuration, so my opinion is less valuable here.

*Pretty decent sound for stock TV speakers.

*Power-saving off mode to reduce parasitic power drain

*Pretty low power for the size under normal operation

Cons:

*The VGA input doesn't support HD resolution (!!) -- luckily, all of my computers have DVI/HDMI output

*Sleeping the display (when a computer is attached, eg) results in an annoying "No Video Signal" announcement bar to be displayed.

*Sleeping the display also turns off sound (this is a minor nitpick, and soon won't matter since I'll have an external sound system)

*Sometimes the image size options don't suffice for getting the picture to fill the screen properly. I really miss the setting on the AQUOS that widened things more as you approach the side. It usually resulted in a full-screen effect for SD content. The Toshiba options are to cut off part of the screen, or have black bars. Of course, due to the LED backlighting, the black bars are not noticeable which is nice.

"LED Backlit LCD TV, not LED TV" 2009-10-22

Just to let you know Underhill, Samsung doesn't make a single LED TV, they make an LCD that's backlit with LED lights instead of CCFL lights. The only LED you can purchase right now is a 12 inch LED from Sony which runs about $7000, that is a TV screen made up of lots of tiny LED lights. The "Samsung's LED" TV's as they call them are nothing but a traditional Liquid Crystal Display like any other LCD except the lights behind them are different. Plus the Samsung one isn't totally backlit only edge lit so the contrast in the middle of the picture isn't the same as the outer edges. So do some research before you buy, LG and Sony both make very good fully LED backlit LCD TV's, not just edge lit, so you get much more even contrast across the whole screen plus the benefit of "Local Dimming."

"Regza" 2009-10-16

I purchased a new Regza in June 2009. Three months later the picture has vertical blue lines and when red is displayed, I get vertical red lines running from top to bottom. They fade in and out when each color is displayed on the screen. Very distracting for an expensive TV. I called Toshiba and they didn't seem to care. I looked on you tube and found others that have the same problems.

Would I buy another Toshiba Regza ? Hell no.

Now, I have to find a repair center and haul it over there. Lucky me.

I think I'll try Samsung LED next. No more LCD's

If you own a Regza now, better hope is doesn't start the vertical line crap.

Unless you want an inch thin LCD TV, this should be your TV of choice. I went to Sixth Avenue where they had an exceptionally large selection of LCD and Plasma TVs. This TV had the best picture quality of any LCD TV they had. I was planning on getting a Samsung 1080P 120Hz thin LED TV (could not quite swallow the price of the 240Hz) model until I read reviews of streaks in the picture quality when watching the TV in a dark room. I then moved on to the less expensive non LED Samsung 240Hz LCD TV which is still $400 more than this Toshiba. Luckily, the salesperson asked me to take a look at this TV first. This TV is back-lit LED which makes the TV thicker, but provides better picture quality than the side-lit LEDs in the thin Samsung. The 240Hz was a real bonus--especially in a TV that sells for this price. I have had the TV for a month now and could not be happier with it. I have had friends that visit comment that this TV has the best picture quality they have ever seen in any TV. This is the best 46-inch LCD TV you can buy that sells for a price that's unbelievably low when compared to the competition. It might not be the thinnest LCD LED TV, but it does have the best quality picture in any LCD TV. It is just one awesome TV.

Ordered this TV around the beginning of August. Amazon shipping said to expect it on the 14th. It arrived on the 12th, lucky I had just returned home because I was all set for the 14th! Anyway, The delivery guy carries it in, takes it out of the box and set it on the stand for my old Sony Bravia.(Since I didn't put the new stand together yet. He then helps me take the old TV down to its new location in the basement rec room. (Nice of him!) We plug in the new Toshiba and I connect it to my cable HD DVR box with the new HDMI cable I also purchased from Amazon. It works! Beautifully! The sound is better than expected. The picture, especially the HD channels is great and the colors and contrast are fantastic. Everything I expected and more. The Dolby sound leveling seems to work (still checking). Our collection of wide screen DVD's looks great. Maybe because of the Resolution+ upscaling. So check out all the features and compare the price with the only LED TV somewhat similar: Sony's BR8 series. I think you'll be very pleased with this new Toshiba 46SV670U (55SV670U is similar). By the way, mine was manufactured in JULY 2009!

I'll update this if problems develop.

Well, it's now October and this TV is still the best. And it's great to be able to plug in a SD picture card and watch a slideshow or plug in an USB flash drive and play music or other media.

I would have preferred less glare but for my extra large bright room this TV was just right. Glare is much less than Plasmas, of course. Consumer Reports gave this TV high marks. That's my 1st reason for buying. We are enjoing our 1st flat TV so far based on the higher number of hours we're watching than the large old tube, which we promptly moved to an underused room.

I ordered this Toshiba 55" TV Friday, Nov 10th, 2009 and received the TV and mount by thursday the following week. This was well within the time period I expected of 5-7 business days from date or oder. The TV was packaged with over 50 pounds of protection. The local agent delivered the TV the same day as it was picked up by them. They moved this 120 lb delivery to an upstairs location, unpacked it, and fired it up. I have view the tv for a couple of days now and feel extrememly happy about the product and the Amazone process of ordering and delivering. Very little fuss and the quick delivery was unexpected. I paid less than $1700 for the Toshiba Regza and have found it to be state of the art regarding picture quality and component capability. The picture is as vivid during the day as night. I will provide more performance info as time progresses. Overall I rate Amazon a five star and that is why I continue to buy from them. Extreme price competiveness, ease of selection, pro/con reviews, and multiple products to choose from in one company are perfect for me. The quick delivery and setup was added sweetner.

THis is an excellent TV. Picture quality is amazing and there is excellent connectivity ports on the back and side.

The viewing angle is amazing also - as good as a plasma. Can be viewed from all angling in our living room with no problems.

The only complaint is that occasionally the sound get weird - after watching for a while (2 hours or more) sometimes the sound gets distorted. When you turn it off and back on again it is fixed.

I not sure what is causing this but it may be that I have surround sound and I'm not using it?

Anyways - this happens very rarely and it is a very minor problem and may be something with my hookup.

I would recommend this TV - excellent TV.

I finally took the plunge for an HD set. At the time that I last set up my home theater - HD had _just_ come on market. Some early CRT-based HD sets were available, but the specification wasn't quite there, and certainly content availability was very low. The sets were _very_ expensive as well. So I simply opted for a high-end Standard Def. set from Sony.

Things were fine for a long time.

Then the LCD sets came on the market. Vendors wanted more money for what was, to my eyes, an inferior picture. CRT based sets were quickly discontinued - not necessarily because LCD technology was superior (it certainly wasn't) - but because such sets take much less floor space on a show room floor. The poor color representation, and pixelization, and motion blur of LCD sets turned me off, and Plasma wasn't much better. I just couldn't see spending more money for a worse picture, even if the set had physical advantages in terms of space, and power savings.

Well, fast forward to today. After looking over several Samsung models - I ended up purchasing this set. It's by no means the current "best available" at this point - but considering the price and quality it's quite good. The black levels on this set are amazing (none of that dark gray = black). The color representation is excellent. And, so far, judder and motion blur seem acceptably low.

Hi-definition sportscasts look amazing. NHL and NBA (currently in-season) look fantastic - the gleam of the ice or the court, or the reflections off the glass barriers is really something to see.

The X-Box 360 looks fantastic in 1080p - and video games don't seem to have any real lag between the control and updates of on-screen action.

The 3:2 pulldown, movie mode (24 fps) looks quite alright so far. Several DVDs (don't have the Blu-Ray yet) look almost Hi-Def when up-sampled (several guests have been amazed that it wasn't actually a Hi-Def source).

All in all, pleasantly happy with this set, and looking forward to several years of viewing pleasure.

Best LCD I've seen to date, bar none. I did my homework for quite sometime and found the 81F series to be a hidden gem. This being the 2007 LED backlit series, it was $1,000 cheaper than the 2008 Samsung LN46A950 (120Hz). Thankfully, I got mine in time: the 2009 Luxia series Samsungs LNXXB8000 (240Hz), LNXXB7000 and LNXXB6000 do not have local LED dimming! What's the point of having an LED backlight? Grab your A950 and 81F series while you can.

Only one notable con: sound quality. Certainly not a deal breaker, but you'll definitely not want to depend on the internal speakers.

Samsung has created a thing of beauty with it's LED-LCD TV line. The blacks on phenomenal and when used in conjunction with a Samsung Blu-Ray player, it works flawlessly as 1 product. When you turn off the TV, the Blu-Ray goes into sleep mode, when the TV is off and you insert a movie, the TV comes on while the Blu-Ray begins to load...an amazing product. I would advise caution regarding the sellers and shippers though.

I recently purchased a Sony 52" 52Z5100 LCD television. Ultimately, I ended up exchanging it for the Samsung on this page. Why? Well, read on.

First, I had a 42" LCD projection 720p. Nice picture but time to upgrade. I always disliked glossy screened models but drooled over the thinness of the Samsung LED's. At Best Buy, I looked at all the TV's. I didn't care about 240hz b/c it's not a noticable difference over 120hz, so I was considering many displays. I kept coming back to the Sony 52Z5100 ($1899) and the Samsung UN46B6000 ($1839.) I know Sony makes good displays and I was worried about the glossiness so I purchased it and had it delivered. When I got it hooked up I was impressed but I never could quite get the picture they had in the store that was almost 3D. I know part of that is b/c they have all the settings pushed real high in-store, but even when I did that I couldn't get it. Now, don't get me wrong, it looked really good and I was really thinking of keeping it. But every time I looked at it from the side it just seemed a little bulky. The other issue I was having was the brightness. Even with the backlight turned to 1 and brightness turned down low, the display was too bright. It was fine when watching a show but if a commercial came on with a white background it sometimes hurt my eyes. It was that bright. Some would view that as a good thing but I constantly found myself adjusting the backlight and brightness. I can't say I wasn't satisfied with the display but after 3 weeks I found myself still considering the Samsung and I saw that as a sign that I should exchange it.

Having had the Samsung for 2 weeks now I am happy that I made the exchange. The glossiness, while not ideal on a bright day, isn't that bad. In fact, I would say that if this TV didn't have the glossy screen it would be almost perfect. The extreme brightness on the Sony tended to wash colors out a little...something I didn't really notice until viewing the Samsung. Colors were much more saturated. Some people have mentioned uneven lighting with the Samsung. I have looked hard for it and as picky as I am I can't see it at all. The sound is also very acceptable...much better than I expected, and that's nice since I don't always want to play it through my stereo. The Samsung also gives you more control over its settings than the Sony did. Perhaps that's why I could never get the Sony to exactly where I wanted it. The only negative I would give this TV is the motion control settings. Honestly, my favorite is usually off. I don't see much blur at all with it off. Putting it on Smooth, Clear, Standard, or even Custom with the blur on 10 and judder on 0 can look somewhat artificial at times. For instance, I replayed a scene on my DVR using all the settings. During this scene the camera pans across a bunch of people sitting on a bus. While smooth looked kind of neat, it created a little "jump" or judder at one portion of the pan. In fact, all the settings except off did this. (I also tried custom with judder at various settings.) Now, many people wouldn't even notice this and by no means does it ruin the experience, I'm just left with the feeling that this whole 120hz and 240hz is much ado about nothing. Like I said, turning it off is fine...even when watching football.

To sum up, by no means do I mean to imply the Sony is a bad TV - far from it. If you have recently bought one you have a very good TV with a beautiful picture. Just for me, preference wise, I prefer the Samsung. I love the thinness and deeper color saturation. Now, perhaps if I sat further from the TV (I'm at 11ft) or had this in a room with windows facing the TV (mine are to the side of it) I may feel differently. It all comes down to personal preference when you're talking about TV's of this caliber, so hopefully I've just provided a little more for you to help you decide which is for you. Happy viewing!

So, I've been looking for a new HDTV for a while now, but when I saw the amazing deal on this television here at Amazon, I just had to grab it up.

So, I've had the television for a few weeks now, and I have to say that the picture quality is amazing. I read some other reviews saying there were annoying lines at the sides of the television when watching in a dark environment, and I have to dismiss that completely. Perhaps they had a faulty unit or something, because I don't get that problem at all. This television provides super vibrant colors, and it's just amazing to watch football on (in HD, of course). I use this both in the daytime and at night, and my two complaints are this: 1) This television is super glossy. So much that it really catches a lot of reflections (off windows, lights, etc.). Since this is an issue with almost every television, this is probably just something to consider when placing it in a room. 2) This television sometimes grays whites out. Now, we all know the problem with LCDs - getting deeper blacks. Plasmas don't have this problem, but LCDs do because they're backlit by fluorescents. These Samsung LED televisions don't have this problem because they use LED backlighting to achieve truly deep blacks. I've only noticed this when there is a black screen with white text, but in such a scenario, the white text sort of greys out. It's not terribly bad, but it it noticeable. In all other conditions, this television is fine, though.

I also use this television for gaming. Absolutely perfect picture quality there, too. I actually had a minor issue where there was a tight text scroll going across the bottom of the screen (Battlefield 1943), and the bottoms of some of the letters (mostly Ms, Ns, etc.) were running together. This was a small problem, but mildly annoying. Anyway, I switched the television to Game Mode, and that cleared up immediately. Absolutely awesome television.

Anyway, I'd definitely recommend this television. I've received nothing but compliments on it from all of my friends (a fair part are HDTV snobs) and even the delivery crew. This is definitely the finest television I have ever owned.

I am not a particularly sophisticated viewer - I have educated myself on this technology by reading what experts say, yet I have very little personal experience in comparing and evaluating specific brands/devices. I own a Sony bravia 52XBR4 which I purchased about 16 months ago (newer models exist, and perhaps theres some fade in mine) and which sits in a room adjacent to that of the Samsung in my small Manhattan apartment . The Sony is a fantastic LCD, however when I place the Samsung LED backed LCD on the same HD program and look between the two, the difference is obvious. This is especially true when the screen has a lot of black in it - the Samsung is BLACK! No light at all! It makes a difference...wow!

Only 1 month into using it, but thus far im blown away. Im watching way too much television....

the quality of this tv is amazing everyone i know that owns an HDTV says that this one is so much better, the difference between 60 & 120Hz is crazy, even watching a 700 mb 90 min AVI movie on this tv still looks awesome which i thought it would be horrible quality on such a big tv. Anyways you might find other TVs for cheaper with the same specs, but take it from someone who used to fix TVs for LG their customer service is so much better than any other company i have seen that on the rare instance something goes wrong they will take good care of you.

This is the first HDTV I've ever purchased and I feel good about it. It's a beautiful picture, right out of the box. It took me about 10 minutes to unpack, another 5 to connect, and another 5 to configure. Out of the box, I have zero complaints about the picture settings. So far, the only thing in the image I dislike is the halo around candles/bulbs in a really dark setting. Other than that, this is a fantastic t.v.! You can view the image from any angle and the tru-motion/local dimming features make for a significantly sharp/contrasted image. Once in a while, you get a guy that has been working on t.v.s his whole life and starts bashing every little non-perfect thing about a t.v., but if you work, eat food, and watch t.v., this LG is for you! I've owned this TV for a week now. I haven't experimented with white scrolling text to look for the blooming and I almost don't want to. After working with multimedia encoding and 3D graphics, I've discovered that ignorance is sometimes bliss. Once you notice something, you can't stop yourself from seeing it all the time (like macro blocks from MPEG compression, motion "judder,", etc.).

I'll also agree with other reviewers that you really need to play with the advanced menus in order to tune the picture. "Vivid" and "standard" are nice for cartoons and anime but are too over-the-top for anything else. The auto-adjusting setting is a nice idea but in practice is annoying because it pops up a logo to tell you it is adjusting the picture. I was watching one night and every time I turned a table lamp on or off, the picture would adjust (which would be fine if it didn't annoy me with an on-screen logo to tell me about it).

This TV is no Samsung (LED). I can definitely tell the difference in the local showroom and the Samsungs are very svelte. But for this price, I don't think you can find anything comparable. The LED backlighting definitely increases the visible contrast; you'll see blacks that you just won't see on a non-LED LCD. I haven't seen the blooming or LED "popping" that other reviewers have mentioned, but even if I turn off the dynamic lighting, the LED still gives me brighter lighting, less heat and (theoretically) longer life and greater reliability. Plus, I get bragging rights for a while. "Check it out; the very latest in big screen HD tech!"

Speaking of bragging rights, all of my friends have commented about how wonderful this TV display looks, even people who have bought Samsungs and Bravias in the past year. Considering that I bought this TV at a price that was the same as the non-LED Samsungs, I'm quite happy. All the technical negatives noted about this TV are probably spot on, but for the price, I don't think I could have done nearly as well with any other TV. I bought this TV as sort of a memorial to my brother who died just this past Christmas. He was very into big screen TVs and the latest tech. I think he'd be happy to see his nephew watching Bakugan in HD glory.

I received this from amazon's warehouse; whoever returned it clearly didn't tweak (or know how to tweak) the picture sets for optimum performance. After playing around with all the pix options - and there are a lot of choices - I ended up with video that was incredible....an amazing improvement on my 3yr old sharp (which I had thought was really great.) The picture is sharp, the colors natural, the depth and the blacks superb. For folks who haven't a clue how to set up the picture, there are plenty of sites like sound&vision or PC world or pc mag who list their particular preferences.

The gents who delivered were awesome....set it up and made sure it worked. Applause for amazon's service here.

Have no comment on audio since I use my own sound system.

I have had the TV for almost a month now and I am very pleased with my decision to purchase the Sharp. I did a lot of research, both on line and with actual "in store" comparisons at a nearby TV/Video store. The store had the Sharp LED, the Samsung LED and a Sony XBR, all in 46", side-by-side with the Sharp in the middle. The Sony was eliminated immediately because it's picture lacked the crispness and clarity that the LED televisions had. In three separate trips, I had almost 3 hours of watching the Sharp and Samsung televisions side-by-side. In viewing programing with darker backgrounds, I found no difference between the two. In programs with very bright backgrounds, I found the Sharp had an even brightness through the entire picture due to its full array LED and the Samsung was slightly brighter along the edge due to its edge lit LED that probably would not have been noticible if it were not sitting next to the Sharp. The decision was made during a Food Network show, and a red and white curtain in the background had a slight purplish tint on the Samsung, and was true red on the Sharp. If I was hanging the TV on the wall, the thinness of the Samsung would have been a consideration; however, the Sharp is not a thick television and would hang on the wall just fine. I also looked at several plazma TVs, but they put out an extreme amount of heat. I can hold me hand a few inches away from the screen of a LED and do not notice any temperature difference from the rest of the room, but you can really feel the heat from a plazma when standing 2 to 3 feet in front of it. The Sharp is considerably cheaper than the Samsung, and overall, Sharp has the better picture. The TV/Video store knocked $400 off of their advertised price; however, I was able to get another $400 off of that through Amazon.com. With shipping and no sales tax, I saved about $600 off my best local price and $1,000 off the local advertised price.

For the money this is the best LED back lit around! The sound is ok nothing out of the ordinary but it makes up for it in picture quality. The HD programing from Time Warner cable has never looked better. If your thinking of a LED backlit take a look at this Sharp model you wont be disappointed.

I was a bit hesitant to buy this TV as I was waiting for a price drop on the Samsung LN52B750 52-Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV with Charcoal Grey Touch of Color for several days. Then, at Fry's I saw Sharp's new LC52LE700UN standing next to Samsung's LN52B750 and they both looked quite similar, though Samsung's screen was slightly brighter. The picture quality appeared to be the same. I grabbed the Sharp's remote and changed the picture settings and I was able to increase the backlight up to match Samsung's level while still maintaining amazing contrast ratio and black levels.

By the end of the day I decided to go for the Sharp TV, and I had it for almost a week now. The picture looks really great at any time of the day, when the room is dark or lit (we have a side window facing south). The TV's sound is pretty good and clear, but I decided in advance that I'd like good external speakers to match this great TV.

The TV features also a VGA input (there's also an S-Video input), which is handy for connecting a computer or laptop. I tried connecting my MacBook Pro yesterday and it was able to drive it at 1344x756 (16:9) and 1344x1008 (4:3), but I couldn't get 1920x1080. The picture looks sharp, and it was good enough to watch Hulu on it.

If there's one thing I don't like about it, it's the remote, which is not really stylish to say the least (Samsung's glossy remote looks much better). That's not a deal breaker, since most common function (Power, volume, input selection) can be done by almost any Blu-ray remote anyway (I have Samsung BD-P3600 blu-ray player remote, which looks great).

Overall, this is an excellent TV for the price and the picture quality is comparable to higher-end Samsung TVs which cost few hundred dollars more.

Let me start off by saying that this TV is amazing. I purchased this item from amazon a few weeks ago and everything about the transaction has been smooth and enjoyable. I did a lot of research on various LCD, LED TV's. After countless hours of research I decided that this TV would best suit my needs. I decided on the 7000 over the 6000 because of the internet capability and extra picture adjustments. I would have liked the 8000 but the price for the extra resolution and refresh rate wasn't justifiable in my opinion. I ordered this TV on Friday and received the TV on the following Wednesday. Once the TV was delivered I was blown away from the thickness of the TV. I knew how thin the TV was but was still shocked during the unboxing of the TV. I ordered a wall mount from monoprice. The only problem I had with mounting the TV is that the included screws weren't long enough to secure the TV to the Mount. I found some screws laying around the house that solved this problem. Once the TV was connected, I hooked up my PS3 for blu-ray testing with The Dark Knight. I had the picture set to Dynamic and the opening scene blew me away. The colors were sharp and the action scenes were amazing. If you are in search of a new TV, I would strongly recommend this TV. Amazon made the transaction easy and painless. Amazon's price and service can't be beat.

Great picture but I don't have blu-ray so I can't expect the best possible picture. The manual is better than most supplied by Asian companies but it leaves certain features unexplained. Except for the sound I haven't seen any issues complained about in other reviews. My complaint with the sound is that the range of volume control is noticeably limited. We use a cable box with its own volume control, so who do you blame? I don't know how well the audio interface works with external devices. (We have a cheap Visio that will blast you out of the room. It doesn't sound great, but it's clear and loud). Haven't tried to interface with the Internet. Haven't hooked up a game. Haven't tried using the memory port to view a downloaded movie.

I bought this particular model because of a hoped for reduction in power usage and reduction in heat generated when compared with LCD and Plasma TVs. If this is not a concern then this is an excellent TV but not necessarily worth the extra price if you can't get it on sale.

I purchased this TV in August and have noticed a horrible blur on every image. Every sporting game has a horrible blur...it may be that my tv has a defect, but its definitely going back. I have tried different HDMI cords, no difference. Also caled my cable company, no problems.

LG has a serious audio/video synchronization problem with this TV. We bought this TV at a local big box store. We loved the picture. But...the TV is not properly decoding ATSC signals (OTA HD) when encoded as Dolby DTS with 720p video. The audio lags the video, and the video is choppy and then fast forwards to catch up. LG customer service is TERRIBLE. The telephone support is staffed by folks who are challenged by the english language and although the internet chat support is polite and courteous, they are unable to tell us when (if at all) a fix will be availble. This is the last LG product we will buy. Stick with Samsung or Sony, we have purchased many Samsung and Sony products and have never been dissapointed like this.

This is a great TV. It's large. It's 240Hz for smooth motion. The quality of the color is excellent when you select the THX picture setting. The menu is simple for things like channel selection, but it has the advanced picture settings when you need to do minor tweaks to the picture quality.

I was trying to decide between the Samsung 8000 series and this one. The Samsung model had network connectivity, but no Netflix connectivity. Other LG models had Netflix connectivity, but this model has no network connectivity. The Samsung had a glossy display, and the LG has a glossy border with a matte finish for the display. Due to the lighting in the room with the TV, the matte finish made more sense to reduce the reflections from the lights in the room. Both have no significant picture difference between them, and they're among the best picture quality you can currently find. The Samsung is much thinner and lighter than the LG model. Both currently have the lowest energy consumption ratings for their size, and that's because of the LED light usage in the TV. The LG model has no S-video input, but it has several HDMI inputs, which is what you really need.

The biggest difference between the two models was price. This LG TV was a few hundred dollars cheaper for the same picture quality. At least I couldn't see the difference in various TV stores.

Some other people mentioned that there were some sound sync issues, but I haven't noticed it (with and without my audio receiver). Based on other reviews, it seems like it depends on the version of the TV firmware version and the video devices you're using. You can request an update if you encounter it, but with over the air TV and the Dish Network receiver, it wasn't a problem. If sound quality is really a concern, get a real sound system with a subwoofer.

If you still occasionally watch standard definition TV, and you're watching within 12 feet of the TV, I wouldn't go larger than this size. This issue is not unique to this model. Pretty much every TV this size or larger has a fuzzy picture for standard definition video when viewed up close. Also if you're not using HDMI cables for your video, like RCA cables (yellow/white/red colored cables), you're reducing the quality of the video. You really need to use HDMI cables when viewing a local high definition source.

"The TV to end all TV's" 2009-10-12

This is, quite simply, the best TV out there. Don't bother looking at more flashy, expensive models. All those reviews you're probably read, disregard all of them and buy this TV.

I spent several months researching TV's, and trying to weigh in on the battle between LCD and plasma. I finally decided on an LCD because the power consumption of plasmas can be daunting, plus we have a very bright living room that would have caused a lot of glare. Then I saw one of these bad boys as a Best Buy, and was practically sold on the spot.

The colors are extremely bright, even if you have the brightness turned to a lower level. Clarity was much better than on many of the other Samsung LED TV's I also looked at. The screen was much more uniform, too, with the backlighting compared to the edge-lit. The contrast is also very impressive, with blacks that are darker than the depths of my soul. I played some Halo 3 on it the other day, and it was glorious to behold. I did have to tweak the settings a bit to get exactly what I was looking for, which really just meant switching it to another pre-set display option. This was because in some very dark areas of the game the few bits of color that there were seemed to meld right into the dark scenery around it. After turning off the local dimming, though, it went right back to sweet. And on this point, I want to also add that I haven't seen any of the "jutters" that some people notice when the 240hz is turned on. Everything looked smooth and fluid on both Halo 3 and Too Human.

When watching movies, it's almost surreal how life-like it is. Me and my girlfriend both commented on it during out first viewing. Our cat is even intrigued by it (watched a whole episode of Flight of the Conchords with us), and he's never been one to bother with TV's. I did notice a little bit of haloing during credits, with white lettering on a black background, but it was only because I was looking for it. It's actually not very apparent, LG did a good job with this one.

At the end of the day, when it comes down to it I have not a single complaint about this set. I was expecting to pay upwards of $2500 or more for what I was looking for in a TV (I had high standards), so was pleasantly surprised to find this gem for $1400. I don't think you could find a TV half as nice for this price, I looked.

"Finally a TV for my picky self!" 2009-10-07

I went through 4 HDTVs before getting this one. I knew I wanted 1080p and 240 Hz. I went to a local furniture store and got the Sony 46Z5100. When i got it home, I loved it, until the sun went down. In darker rooms, the backlight shines through and creates uneven colors and bright spots in darker display scenes. I got online and found out this is a common problem with the Sony LCDs.

I took it back and the sales rep talked me into a toshiba 1080p, 240hz tv. JUNK! I hated it. It was too bright and the colors were saturated. I took it back and decided to go to BB.

When I first went into BB my eyes were drawn to this LG, but the sales guy talked me into the Samsung 850. I took the Samsung home and it kept powering off every 2 hours. I took the Samsung back to swap it out and another sales guy said, "oh yeah, we have that proble with these Samsungs."

So I went and spoke to the first BB sales guy and he told me to get the Sony 46ZX5100 again. He swore that I wouldn't have the backlight issue again. So, like and idiot, I got another Sony. Sure enough, I was getting the blotchy flashlighting effect. So I took it back and told them that I want the TV I was drawn to in the first place. Before I took the last Sony back, I kept it for a week and did research on the LG. I even took my XBOX 360 into the store and hooked it up to the store model. I loved it in the store. The 240hz, although not true 240HZ, looked just as good as the Sony. The thing I loved was the colors of the LG and the local dimming. B-E-A utiful!! Better color than the sony, the samsung, and the Toshiba combined. No joke.

The only concern I had from the reviews was the sound sync issue. I called LG before getting the TV and they said that it was a known issue and if I got one that had the problem, then I can call them and they will send me an update for free or I can download it from the internet and flash drive it to the TV. So far, I haven't had to do this.

Obviously, I am very picky. I LOVE this TV! I got it for $1399 on sale and in my opinion, that is a steal. LG continues to pump out quality products and this is the latest and greatest. I rated the sound high because it blows all 4 of the other TVs out of the water. Yeah, its perfect, but it rocks compared to the others. It's also LED so it uses less ower than my electric toothbrush!!

"Samsung LED Backlit 47" LH90 Model TV" 2009-10-05

After weeks of methodical research, I purchased a 47" version of this set (LG LH90) on sale two weeks ago and find that it meets or exceeds every one of my most critical expectations. I have it connected to a Dish satellite HD receiver. The LED backlit (2,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio) picture is superb. Even dark on dark colors are easily distinguished (dark greens, dark blues, blacks). It offers an excellent picture even in brightly lit rooms with windows. The menu system is really simple and it is easy to set up. It has a sensing "eye" to set screen brightness to lighting levels in the room (dims in dark rooms, lightens in brighter room conditions).

It has only two distracting issues: (1) Like many other LCD TV models offered on the market, the surrounding black screen bezel is wide with highly reflective plastic. It can reflects any ambient room light such as from windows, etc. - annoying, but not too distracting since the TV can be rotated easily on its swivel stand. (2) The light indicator (indicating operating status: "on" or "standby") on the bottom right side (facing downward) seems to be overly reflective in dark rooms. Neither of these issues would detract from buying this TV. Picture quality seems to meet or exceed other popular market brands such as the newly introduced LED edge lit Samsungs, etc. I would not hesitate to buy this TV again.

There isn't much original feedback for me to add. Most of it's been said.

The picture is vivid, and is the most accurate out of the box I've ever seen. All I did was turn the 'color' and 'brightness' down a little (I've always preferred a slightly subdued picture).

I was initially concerned about inputs. My TVs are always plumbed into my stereo and home theater systems. I use my preamp as the audio hub and my TV as the video hub. None of my gear is new enough to have HDMI, but there were still sufficient connections on the TV.

Someone please tell me if I break a rule here about naming magazines...

There is a professional review in the Nov 09 Home Theater Mag (it's also online). It's one of their recommended TVs. A well known cosumer mag (that likes to sue if they're named and quoted) ranks Toshiba LCDs as some of the least trouble prone LCDs, and recommends the REGZAs.

If I have any quality troubles down the road, I'll update this. Right now, I am completely satisfied. Let me add that Amazon was on the ball too. Again. TV was here four days sooner than promised, and in excellent condition.

I also did a lot of research when looking for a new LED tv. You cannot find another tv that has the same features for this price. The closest was the Samsung unb6000. Samsung matched everything the toshiba had except the local dimming and 240 hz refresh rate. The thickness didnt matter to me becuase the Toshiba is only 4 inches deep, so you really could hang both sets. My only complaints about the 67OU is the screen can give off some glare and the color green is not as accurate as it should be. Oh btw - I paid $1000 less for the Toshiba!

I have had this Toshiba 55SV670U for about one week. My decesion to pick this set over the Samsung 7100, Samsung 950, Sony XBR8 and LGH90 did not come without a carefull examination of the picture quality on all the sets. (I eliminated plasmas as they appeared rather dim to me.)

My desire was high brightness, sharpness and high contrast ratios. The weight and thickness was not that important as I only planned on moving this set once or twice. I will be looking at the picture more often than looking at the side view.

This model Toshiba is now using a similiar front layer as Samsungs and it has improved the contrast ratio signifiantly. The blacks are much darker using this front material. I know it will reflect lights from behind me, but I'll block the window with a shade.... I would rather have that problem 10 % of the time than have the matte finish distort the picture 100 % of the time.

The only way to improve contrast ratio is to locally dim. All the above do locally dim except the Samsung 7100. I questioned how the Samsung 7100 could have a single backlight and be able to make selected areas blacker. I found this Samsung set to have a slight blue hue over the whole picture. However, the Samsung 7100 would have been my second choice.

The Sony XBR8 and the Samsung 950 had the best pictures - just too expensive for the RGB backlighting and Just not worth

$ 1500 to $ 2000 more to me.

The Toshiba 55SV670U gave me the local dimming, an anti-reflective coated contrast window, 120 HZ scan rate and a bright long lasting LED display. I am completelty satisfied with this set.... and with and with its much lower selling price.

Drop in Mr and Mrs Smith in Blu Ray and you will ever regret purchasing this Toshiba

We bought a Toshiba REGZA about 18 months ago and were very satisfied. However, it just developed a major screen problem (1 inch by 3/8 inch dead spot), only a few months past the 12 month warranty. We contacted Toshiba, who was "unable to assist us with the cost of the repair." It is out of warranty so they are within their rights, but it was a major cost to our limited budget and I would be reluctant to recommend it to others.

"Best LCD on the market" 2009-11-10

I have been waiting 3 years to buy a new lcd tv and money was not an option, i was looking for the best picture available on a 46in. screen. I narrowed it down to the Sony XBR8 and the Samsung LED 8500. I viewed both hdtv's many times side by side and finally came to the decision to go with the Sony XBR8. This tv is even beter than the XBR10 from sony which just came out this year. The XBR8 is the only lcd that has the red, green and blue LED BACKLIGHT. Not even the new xbr10 has this, it has the clear led's. I think this helps with the brightness of colors and really dark blacks. As far as the reason not to go with the Samsung 8500 LED was that the XBR8 had slightly darker blacks and also had a crisper picture to it. I'm happy with my Sony and the price was not bad, $2300.00 is what i got it for and upon its original release the tv was going for $5000.00. I'll take it!

"Still one of the best TVs on the market" 2009-10-24

I bought this as a replacement for a Sony 46XBR4 that I had for a little over a year before it was irrepairably damaged during a breakin. This was the TV that I wanted but couldn't afford at the time I bought my XBR4. I can't say enough great things about this TV. The picture is incredible. I can see a huge difference with the Tri-Luminous back lighting on this TV vs. the regular backlighting on the XBR4. The blacks are deeper and richer. The contrast is stunning. I have seen some plasma TVs and I think this TV performs as well as better than many of them. I also looked at some of the Samsung TVs on the market when I went to replace my XBR4. I was very attracted to the slim profile and decreased weight, but the deal-breaker for me were the glossy screens. All of their high-end LED backlit TVs had glossy screens. My living room gets a lot of ambient light and I could not afford to put a TV in there with a glossy screen. The XBR8 is perfect. There is little to no reflection off the screen, which allows me to see a clearer more accurate picture. My only complaint with the XBR8 is that the Motionflow technology occasionally introduces artifacts. I keep it turned off to avoid any artifacts, and to be honest, I really don't see a big difference between when it is on or off. Navigation through the menus are easy. I appreciate the USB port on the side. It's great having friends over and being able to show vacation pictures like a slide show on the TV. Blu-Ray movies look incredible on this TV and the sound is pretty good too. I have read some places where people complained that the speakers on the side looked like "elephant ears". Personally, I think it looks classy. My advice to you is if you have the resources, especially now that the price has come down, buy this TV, you won't be disappointed.

"Great TV. A Little too much in picture options" 2009-09-30

I brought this tv on Amazon used. It hasn't been out very long and LED have a long life span so I decided to give a shot plus you will never see this tv for under 1800 new. Another note, a guy returned it claiming it was scatched on the side. I can live with that. I got my tv and it looked scatched. after removing the plastic it wa in perfect condition. Hooked it up and the picture is truly beyond belieft on this tv. The only picture complaint I could have with SD. Once I hooked it to blu ray the picture took a whole new life that I didn't realize I was missing from my old hd sony that I moved to the bedroom. I have found myself changing the settings every night looking the best picture but no setting is wrong.... maybe vivd. After Having about a month to really play around my biggest problem is too many picture options and a book that doesn't explain everything in detail like how to know that your using the 24p mode

I have yet to find fault with this great LED tech HDTV .

The picture is fantastic , the on-screen menu controls are well designed and intuitive , the built in sound is as good as could be expected ( and is vernier controllable at very low levels - great at night when others are sleeping ) . The 120 Hz refresh rate is good enough for my needs .

I am surprised that Sony has not followed up with more offerings of this technology . I am pleased that I bought when I did .

Eight speakers, P&P, LED, 4 HDMI connects, 18mo. warranty and it's a Sony the one and only, need I say more. Combined with my Denon AVR 2807 & 2500BTCI BD player, the Blu-Ray and DVD HD images and HD sound are spectacular. I purchased the Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR8 LED TV from a Sony retail style store. The manager was agreeable to price match with the "Home Theatre Store" at a wopping $1400 discount to $2299 from $3699, economic times have indeed changed. Prepare to have your eyeballs massaged, it will not disappoint.

Not bad for $2500, I payed a few thousand more in Japan. It's worth every penny if you want the best clarity. The colors are the same as any good led tv, but with the contrast ratio, the colors appear to have more depth. I think they are sharper.

When you see a human face on this, it is just like looking in a mirror. You can see the makeup on actors and actresses. Every single pore, pock mark, and skin growth on Adam Sandlers face comes through. You can see how his eyebrows were plucked, the rouge the put on him to make him look healthy, its all there.

Women you used to think were like godesses look just like the waitress at the local diner, with a heavy pasting of makeup. You know that girl at the office who is a part time make-up seller on top of her day job? The one who sometimes returns from the bathroom with half her face smudged off? (She did realize she brushed the make up off while answering the call of nature) Well, actresses look like her.

This takes movies, TV shows, sports, etc, to a whole new level.

It is sort of a reality check to say the least. It shows that hollywood really is human after all. My favorite is angeline Jolies, botoxed face, lips, lipo'd body, and oh! love her stretch marks too. Brad Pitt's face is a wrinkled mess from all the drugs.

This TV is worth buying for the reality check of the stars faces alone.

Makes me feel good about all my imperfections.

I love the TV and will buy each consecutive larger size as they come out.

I love OLED technology. We needed a new set in the guest bath, so we ordered one of these on a whim. We all fell in love with them, and so the whole family wanted one. The next thing we ordered 6 more--one for each of the kids' rooms and the other bathrooms. I logged on today to buy 2 more after my wife found someone who could do a custom install in the H2's. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough room to put them in the H3's, so the kids will have to wait a year until they can trade up to something bigger.

I considered getting one for the master bedroom, but my one gripe is that the set is a little small. It's hard to replace a 50" screen with a 10" one. My wife said there was already too much undersized hardware in the bedroom. I'm not sure what she meant by that. I put a call into Sony, and they are accepting 10% deposits on the upcoming 36" OLED set. So that's something to consider. For the $5,000 you would spend for just two of the current OLED's, you can get on the waiting list for the 36", due in 2011.

Until then, I'm spending an awful lot of time locked in the bathroom. My wife keeps nagging me that I'll surely go blind, but I tell her the OLED isn't that small.

issues:the screen is highly reflective and will need to be positioned so you arent viewing your own reflection,etc. also,the packaging for this set is quite complex,so if you buy online,you wont be casually shipping this back if you encounter problems. i am nearsighted,and this is an ideal set to watch without my glasses,which is important when using a headphone based audio setup.

Much has been said here about picture clarity, features, design, etc... Let me pass on a few different comments which may benefit those contemplating this purchase, or who have already made the purchase.

To those of you who are skeptical about buying electronics online, relax. Although it is risky buying from those Manhattan online electronics resellers, every step of ordering my Samsung UN46B8000 from Amazon was perfect. Lets start with pricing. After a little web surfing, I found a site that mentioned a significant discount would appear, once the TV is placed in the shopping cart at Amazon.com. I tried it and it worked. For kicks, I printed the page and took it to Best Buy. They admitted they could not come close to matching Amazon's price. Went home and ordered it from Amazon, saving hundreds of dollars. Emails from Amazon soon followed with updates on my order. A couple days later, a phone call to schedule delivery. Two guys delivered the TV and lifted the box cover to verify no visible damage in transit. After a brief conversation, they explained they do a lot of deliveries for Amazon. BTW, I also ordered the Slim-Mount Wall Mounting Kit from Amazon. Best Buy = $250, Amazon $125.

A bit about wall-mounting the TV. Two grooved, hockey puck size disks mount to the wall, spaced about 7 inches apart. Another pair of disks connected together with a cable, mount to the back of the TV. You then hang the TV over the wall disks. Like everyone else, all I could envision was my TV crashing to the ground, but it works....scary, but it works. Note, if you need help aligning vertical placement, drill your wall holes 7 inches apart and 22 inches above where you want the bottom of the TV to be. Note to Samsung: Put this in the manual. The instructions that come with the mounting kit are worthless.

And now, the TV. More features than I have time for. I noticed a new firmware update had been released, so I downloaded it from Samsung. It's a single executable, which you run to unzip as a folder containing several files. Open the folder and drag the files to the root of your USB flash stick. Plug the stick in the back of the TV and perform the software upgrade. The TV wont find the files if they're still compressed or not at root level. Samsung: Put this on your website. For users connecting their TV to the Internet via the TV's RJ-45 or optional USB Wifi Stick, the process may be simpler.

Other process' like deleting unwanted channels are not accurately explained in the manual, but after a few minutes of screwing around, you learn how to select the channel lineup, pick a channel then press Tools to get a pop-up menu and choose Delete. Connecting my laptop to the TV via a 15 pin VGA cable yielded a sweet, finely detailed image. If you're not planning to display movies/pics from websites via an Internet connection, you can still display content from your PC, if your PC has video out. The TV also has a 2.5mm audio in jack, so you can run audio from your PC as well. One other cool feature is by holding down the Volume Down button on the TV for 10 seconds, the Remote Control beeps making it simple to find a lost remote.

All in all, a very nice TV with some cool features. This is our first flat-panel TV, so nothing really to compare to. BTW, to the guy who commented on two hot spots on the bottom black bar during movies, I'm getting none of that. Just a perfect picture from all sources: HD Cable, SD Cable, SD DVD, PC and PS2 (PS3 and Internet coming soon).

I bought this TV from a big box store and brought it home on Friday. I also bought the Samsung Blue Ray, BD-P3600 and Sound bar HT-WS1. All I can say is wow the TV is quite the sight to see. The picture is incredible even right out of the cable box in standard def. But high def is truely a great picture. But the picture out of the Blue Ray with a BR disc, all I can say is that it is like I have been watching black and white all these years and now I have color. Keep in mind my previous TV was a Sharp Aquos LCD, about 5 years old and it was a 30" model. It had a great picture.

Setup was very easy. The BR player came with the USB wireless dongle and it was a snap to setup and connect to my wireless network. I downloaded the current firmware, took about 20 minutes and went smoothly. Next I put the wireless dongle on the TV and set it up. Difference between the BR player and TV wireless is that the BR player allowed you to type in the network config where the TV had to see the network broadcast. I keep my SSID broadcast off so I had to turn it on for a few minutes while I got the new firmware update for the TV. It went quicker and finished in about 10 minutes.

Along with my purchase I did get the high end Monster HDMI cables. It figure I am spending this much on the setup the price of the cables are worth it. And they are. The Sound bar came with an optical cable so that was a snap to hook up.

I am looking forward to the great quality I have seen so far.

The picture is everything I could hope for - I use it with a Samsung bluray and a Denon 7.1 home theater and DirecTV HDVR and I'm pleased.

Pro: Excellent picture which is easy to fine tune. Awkward, but complete menu, which is largely intuitive. Easy setup. Extremely thin. Stable mounted on supplied base

Cons: Primary remote is complete, but strangely shaped. Secondary remote is largely useless. The TVs sound is adequete, but will not satisfy an audiophile.

Overall, I am content with this TV. The picture is incredible.

I ordered the TV last Friday and it was delivered today, the image quality is good, the sound is good, I dont know why people keep complaining about that, I do have a surround sound but the tv speakers are not that bad! I was not sure about buying this TV because of people complaining about the sound, glare.... and other little things, but I'm glad I ordered this tv! the Blu-ray movies look awesome! HD channels look good, regular channels are just that.. I still have to adjust the picture settings but I'm very happy with this LED purchase!

Great TV and was going to purchase but the TOC Red personally looks terrible and is a distraction to me. Decided to go with the UN55B8000. A slightly techcially advanced set, 240Hz vs 120Hz refresh and 2 ms pixel response time vs 4ms. TOC on the 8000 is Gray/Clear which IMO looks much better.

So far I have had this TV about 1 month and it is exactly what I expected. I bought it to replace a plasma TV I was sending back because it had too much glare from a nearby window. This TV has a little reflection but not the glare that the plasma had however the picture is still near plasma quality. I would definetly recommend this TV, especially for the price, which was around $400 less than anywhere else after a coupon code with Amazon.

Pros: Excellent picture clarity, amazing colors, 120hz works exceptionally well with progressive scan (ie 720p, 1080p)

Cons: Expensive, backlighting (actually, it's edge lighting on this model) is a little uneven in the corners. While watching credits at the end of a movie, you can see light and dark patches when the background is supposed to be solid black. This only occurs with really dark images and is a function of the TV being so thin.

Overall: I've had the TV for several months with no problems. I'm really happy with this purchase and would make it again.

After only 3 weeks of owning this TV, the TV randomly shut off on its own while we were watching TV. Now the TV constantly just turns on and turns off (with no actual image being displayed on the screen). The only way to shut it off is to disconnect it from the main power source. Called Samsung and apparently it's an issue with the power supply, and they have to send a technician to repair. Turns out, this is a common issue with Samsung. I am not amused that after spending 2500$ on a brand new TV, it will need repair after only owning it for 3 weeks.

I got this Samsung UN55B6000 to replace a dead Sony KDL52W3000 that was just shy of 20 months old.

For the price, it came down to this or the 52XBR9. I took the Samsung cause the picture looked sharper at the store and while still smarting from a Sony reliability issue.

Once set up at home, I started to reconsider my choice. While the dark levels are definitly darker, the glossy screen is a nuissance during low lit scenes.

The bezel design is such that the speakers have nowhere to go but behind the TV which relies purely on the condition and distance of the wall behind it. Compared to the Sony, the sound coming out of this TV sucked.

Samsung defaults their screen with 95% contrast level. So there's not much room for increased contrasts if you ever need to. I believe this is how Samsung obtains their contrast advantage, raise it to max then cover it with a glossy screen.

The slim design also limits source input options. It comes with 4 HDMIs and only either a component or composite source. With the Sony I can connect all my sources redundantly so no need to boot up the power hungry receiver 100% of the time.

So if you hook up all your components into the TV via HDMI, the sound going into your A/V receiver depends on how well the TV can pass it through.
